Most Powerful Roush Mustang Updated: 2009 Roush P-51B Takes Flight

LIVONIA, Michigan — Liftoff has commenced for Roush's second homage to the legendary P-51 WWII fighter

plane, and it is loaded with 510 horsepower and a plethora of performance and aerodynamic modifications.

The 2009 P-51B will have 510 hp and 510 pound-feet of torque (the same as the P-51A), and is the most

powerful Mustang Roush has ever built. Roush technicians have strengthened the 4.6-liter three-valve engine

with forged aluminum pistons, forged steel H-Beam connecting rods, a stronger crankshaft and even a high-

capacity fuel delivery system. A new clutch, six-piston brakes and Roush's Stage 3 suspension are also part

of the P-51B treatment.

The exterior gets the P-51 look with Ford factory Vapor paint and Olive Drab green badging, black chrome

wheels and a blacked-out rear deck-lid panel. The six-piece aero kit will feature both Vapor and Silver

coloring to help match the history of the fighter plane, which was often repaired with different colored

metal panels.

Inside, the P-51B logo decorates the shifter ball, floor mats and leather seats. The vehicle has yellow and

red checkerboard accents to pay tribute to the 357th Fighters Group, Eighth Air Force ETO, a very successful

P-51 fighter group during WWII.

'The 2009 Roush P-51B is really the closest thing we can do to truly match the performance and styling of

the fighter plane,' said Jack Roush, the company's founder and CEO.

Some of the 51 limited-edition 2009 Roush P-51Bs are already arriving at dealers, and the vehicle will be

priced at $65,800 including destination fees and gas guzzler tax. A three-year/36,000-mile warranty comes

with the car and some of the options available are a Roush trunk tool kit, enhanced resonator exhaust and a

radar detector.
